Charges of thousands of containers stuck at Karachi Port, Port Qasim waived off
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Senator Faisal Sabzwari has said that the charges of thousands of containers stuck by importers at Karachi Port Trust and Port Qasim have been waived.

While holding a press conference with the business community in Karachi, Faisal Sabzwari said that we are aware that thousands of containers of shipping lines are stuck at the ports. No charges will be collected from containers stranded at Port Trust and Port Qasim. He said that the shipping lines have given a reasonable discount on the demurrage charges on the containers, not even a single rupee will be charged from the containers stuck at the ports.
Faisal Sabzwari said that containers will be moved to off-dock terminals, no shipping lines are going to be closed in Pakistan, and the business of shipping lines will continue, we have informed the business community. He further said that thousands of containers are stuck at the ports for which we have a complete list, and all charges are being waived 100% to help all these stuck containers. Furthermore, he said that the shipping lines are also worried due to the thousands of containers stranded but they are not going to close their business, the statements in the media regarding them have been wrongly reported and the business of shipping lines is running in Pakistan and will continue, no one can ignore the business related to imports and exports.
Faisal Sabzwari also said that there is a recession all over the world, China has imposed restrictions due to Corona, shipping companies have not stopped business even in the countries which have defaulted and this is not going to happen in Pakistan either and he further explained that by utilizing the existing capacity in the existing customs rules and creating more, all the stranded containers will be moved to alternative locations without any charges or costs, thereby eliminating the rush situation at the port. Problems of shipping companies and terminal operators will be solved.
The federal minister said that the business community is sitting with us, they are also aware that the government is trying to solve the problems, it is a difficult time but they will face it together and the money required to run the government will come from business activities, if the business community does not help then no government can run.
