A desk lamp doesn't have to be plain and forgettable. The Cor Unum table lamp Whimsy shows how an everyday object can pick up a personality of its own. Designer Willem Zwiers has a fascination with children's drawings, with their innocence, playfulness, and impulsive lines, and he carried that spirit into a lamp. The drawings are brought to life on ceramics using glaze pencils, so the lamp looks like a drawing that happens to give off light.

One Drawing, One Lamp

No two of these lamps are the same, just like the drawings that inspired them. Each piece is handmade in the Cor Unum studio and is unique, so the lamp on your desk won't have an identical twin. The loose, unplanned look of a child's drawing is the whole point here, and the glaze pencils let that look carry over onto the ceramic surface.

The Studio Behind It

Cor Unum is a ceramics studio in 's-Hertogenbosch, in the Netherlands, where ceramics by renowned designers are made with passion and skill. The name means "one in heart", and the studio is supported by designers, students, volunteers, and people facing barriers to the labour market, among others. Their shared belief is simple: everyone deserves a place, and everyone has a talent. That mindset runs through the Cor Unum table lamp Whimsy too, since every piece comes out of the same hands-on studio.

The Details

Here's what the Cor Unum table lamp Whimsy comes with:

● Material: earthenware

● Colours: blue, green, yellow or red

● Size: 48 x 20 cm, 52 cm high

● Light source: E14, max 4 watts, bulb not included

● Use: indoors only

● Weight: 2 kg

Since the bulb isn't included, you'll need to pick one up that fits the E14 socket. And because it's made for indoor use only, it belongs in a room, not on a balcony or terrace.

Part of a Bigger Collection

The lamp belongs to the Whimsy collection by Willem Zwiers, and The Design Lover also carries it as a teapot and a watering can. Delivery takes up to 15 working days, and orders over €185 ship free in the EU.

Conclusion

The Cor Unum table lamp Whimsy takes a simple idea, a child's drawing, and turns it into a handmade ceramic lamp. Each one is unique, which makes it feel more like an object with a story than a standard desk lamp.
