What is the cost of treatment of kidney stone? (What is the treatment cost of kidney stone in Hindi)

The treatment of kidney stones depends on the size of the stone and the health of the patient. The doctor may suggest some tests first. The average cost of kidney stone treatment starts from around Rs 22,000 .

How do the kidneys and urinary system work?

Kidneys are fist-sized organs that regulate the body's fluid and chemical levels. We have two kidneys in our body, healthy kidneys remove waste products from the blood which are excreted from the body through urine. They regulate the levels of sodium, potassium and calcium in the blood.

The kidneys, ureters, and bladder are part of the urinary tract. The urinary tract produces, transports, and stores urine in the body. The kidneys make urine from water and body wastes. The urine then travels through the ureters to the bladder, where it is stored. The urine leaves the body through the urethra.

Kidney stones are formed when some stones move from the kidney to the ureter. The ureters are the tubes that go from the kidney to the bladder. If a stone leaves the kidney and gets stuck in the ureter, it is called a ureteral stone.

Know what kidney stones are made of and their types?

Kidney stones come in many different types and colors. How you treat them and prevent new stones from forming depends on the type of stone you have.

  • Calcium stones (80 percent of stones): Calcium stones are the most common type of kidney stone. There are two types of calcium stones: calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate.

  • Uric acid stones (5-10 percent of stones): Uric acid is a waste product that comes from chemical changes in the body.

  • Struvite/infection stones (10 percent of stones) : Struvite stones are not a common type of stone. These stones are related to chronic urinary tract infections (UTIs).

  • Cystine stones (less than 1 percent of stones): Cysteine is an amino acid that occurs in few foods; it is one of the building blocks of proteins.

How are kidney stones treated?

If the stones do not pass out of the body on their own, they can be broken up with ultrasound shock waves or removed in a minor surgery. The most appropriate method will depend mainly on how big the stones are, where they are and what they are made of.

ultrasound shock wave therapy

Ultrasound shock wave therapy uses sound waves to break up stones. The stone fragments then pass out in the urine. This treatment is also called extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). A machine is used to send sound waves from outside the body through the tissue to the stones.

The stone is removed through an endoscopic procedure:

There are two common methods for removing stones through surgery: ureterorenoscopy and percutaneous nephrolithotripsy .

Ureterorenoscopy (URS): Ureterorenoscopy is used for stones that are larger than 10 millimeters in diameter and are in the middle or lower third of the ureter. Kidney stones up to 20 millimeters in diameter are often removed using URS.

Percutaneous nephrolithotripsy: In this procedure, an endoscope is passed into the kidney through a small cut made on the patient's back. There the stones can be broken up either mechanically or with a laser.

What causes kidney stones?

Anyone can get kidney stones, but some people are more likely to get them than others. Men get kidney stones more often than women. Kidney stones are also more common in non-Hispanic white people than in people of other races. You may be more likely to get kidney stones if you:

  • have had kidney stones before

  • Kidney stones in family members

  • not drinking enough water

  • Eating too much protein, sodium (salt), or sugar

  • being overweight

  • Previous bowel surgery

  • polycystic kidney disease

  • have a health problem that causes high levels of cysteine, oxalate, uric acid, or calcium in your urine (pee)

  • have a health problem that causes inflammation in your digestive tract or your joints

  • Taking certain medications

What are the symptoms of kidney stones?

You may experience many symptoms if you have kidney stones. If you notice these symptoms, you should immediately contact your doctor and get yourself examined:

  • vomiting

  • Dizziness

  • Severe back pain

  • Pain around the abdomen
