LOOK: SB19 Hands Over Copies of Jose Rizal’s Works to Sentro Rizal in Washington, D.C.
SB19 visited the Sentro Rizal in Washington, D.C., USA, to hand over copies of Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) posted photos of the visit on its social media pages. The members of SB19 are ambassadors of NCCA Youth and Sentro Rizal. The copies included the Filipino translation by National Artist for Literature Virgilio Almario and English by diplomat scholar Leon Ma. Guerrero. The handover also included the Diksiyonaryong Adarna, which the NCCA describes as a “Filipino dictionary containing unfamiliar words from Rizal’s novels and the Filipino classic Florante at Laura.“ The dictionary includes word entries on art, culture, and local beliefs of the different ethnic groups in the Philippines. According to the commission, the “donation is seen as beneficial not only to the second and third-generation Filipino youth who wish to know more about their roots but as well as to all other foreign nationals who are interested in Filipino literary culture.” The books were received by the Philippine Embassy in Washington DC Deputy Chief of Mission Jaime Ramon Ascalon, Jr. What do you think?
