Peshawar: The number of martyrs in the police lines blast has reached 88, the rescue operation is ongoing

As a result of the explosion in the mosque located near the police lines in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the number of martyred civilians has risen to 88 while the rescue operation is still ongoing.

Muhammad Asim, the spokesperson of Peshawar's Lady Reading Hospital (LRH), has confirmed the martyrdom of 88 people and said that all the people brought to the hospital have been identified.

 

He said that currently, 57 bomb blast victims are under treatment in the hospital, a total of 157 victims were brought to Lady Reading Hospital, and most of them have been sent home after providing medical assistance.

 

Suicide is a possibility that cannot be ruled out;

According to the police’s initial report on the explosion, the incident occurred at 1:15 PM in a mosque located in the Police Lines area of Peshawar, where approximately 300 to 350 individuals were gathered for prayers.

 

The roof of the mosque collapsed after the explosion, and the report states that 63 bodies and 157 injured individuals were rescued from the rubble.

 

The rescue operation, with assistance from the Pakistan Army and Rescue 1122, continues, and a head was discovered among the debris. While investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the explosion, the possibility of it being a suicide attack has been ruled out for now. Further investigations are being conducted from various angles.


The Prime Minister arrived in Peshawar after the devastating loss of life from the explosion and was greeted by several dignitaries including the Army Chief, General Asim Munir, the Defense Minister, Khawaja Asif, and the Information Minister, Maryam Aurangzeb.

He spoke on the occasion and stated that the terrorists aim to spread fear and terror by attacking key institutions that protect Pakistan, but their efforts will be thwarted by the solidarity of the state and its people.

The Prime Minister firmly condemned the blast and pledged that those who unjustly take the lives of innocent citizens will be held accountable.
