Los Angeles, California, has been featured in several films, television shows, and videos for music for its glitz and elegance. You do not require me to remind you that there are thousands, if not hundreds, of activities to accomplish there.

LA takes some getting used to. You could end up in love or hate it immediately away, or we may take several trips to understand it, as I did.

How to Save Money at Los Angeles Attractions?

If you intend on visiting a few sites in Los Angeles, I recommend purchasing a Touring Pass.

It's a municipal discount card that allows you to save money on a variety of popular sights, such as those mentioned above.

A substitute is the Go Los Angeles Attractions Card. This allows you to save up to 50% off the retail price for admission to over 50 major sights and activities. Included are Universal Studios Hollywood, Madame Tussauds, and others.

How to Get Around Los Angeles

The most efficient way to get to Los Angeles is to drive. The best choice is to pick an area, drive there, park, and then walk about.

If you do not drive, ride-sharing applications such as Uber and Lyft are ubiquitous and secure.

The Metro is ideal for getting to Hollywood and Universal Studios. While biking and walking are more popular in coastal communities.

Unmissable Things to Do in LA:

1. Hit the beaches.

The beach is the first spot I recommend that a first-time visitor to Los Angeles see. This is where you'll find a relaxed surf culture and a thriving community without feeling overwhelmed.

I am not convinced the beaches in Los Angeles are very beautiful, but they could be fun locations to hang out. They will help ease you into the frenzy of the town, which you will require if you have never been there before.

The Pacific Ocean is constantly frigid off the coast of California. I never swim in the ocean here since it is too chilly for me!

2. Drive the Palos Verdes Drive

The picturesque Palos Verdes Drive is well worth the time investment.

The drive begins south of Redondo on the South Bay Beaches. It's a 14-mile picturesque trip through peaceful neighborhoods and winding roads to see rugged cliffs, broad sandy beaches, and breathtaking views.

I'd want to return and explore some of the cliff-face hiking routes along the way. The girls weren't cooperating after a few walks. They wanted to enter the city!

It's worth stopping at the Wayfarers Chapel. A full-glass chapel amid a redwood grove with ocean vistas. Almost enough to get me back to Sunday mass!

3. Bike ride to Venice Beach

Venice Beach is an eccentric madhouse. Be prepared for marijuana odors. There's also homelessness. Many folks have reported nasty sightings here.

I admire its psychedelic vibe, which is rooted in the hippy-free love movement of the 1960s. But, I seldom stay long here. Enough for a cycle in from Santa Monica (which is fantastic). A brief look around, and time to watch the basketballers and skaters.

When we last visited, there was this young girl, maybe 9, who was murdering it. The girls and I enjoyed watching her.

4. The Dudes Brewing Company

The Dudes Brewery is located on the upper floor of Santa Monica Place.

We only found out about it when we were meeting our blogging friend Spencer Spellman. I enjoyed it. It was family-friendly, with plenty of games for the kids (and you).

The girls could explore the mall while we talked with Spencer. They have gadgets or carry one of our phones for added security.

The beer was excellent, with a wide selection of locally brewed craft beer, and the pizza and wing dinner we had was stunning. There is an outdoor seating area, and there are views of Santa Monica nearby.

5. Malibu Creek State Park

You could be mistaken for being in Ireland. With its luscious green rolling hills, or Asia, with its jagged mountains and valleys.

Malibu Creek State Park offers plenty of wow factor.

So you can imagine what the landscape is like, M*A*S*H was filmed there, not in Korea as you might have assumed.

The absolute highlight of the week for me, and one of my favorite state parks on our journey thus far. I wish we had more time to explore further and go out to the M*A*S*H* filming site (5 km return). We were not prepared.
